Free online notepad: write, save and share notes
Start writing in a free online notepad
Open the editor and type immediately. No sign-up, download or account is required. Guest notes autosave in this browser after a successful local save, so you can return to them on the same device and browser. The save indicator shows whether a change has been stored. Browser data can be cleared, so export important notes as a backup.
Organize notes and find them again
Create multiple notes, give each one a title, search your notes, add tags and pin the ones you use often. Use a starter template for meeting notes, a daily plan, a customer reply or a project handoff. Guest notes and personal templates stay in this browser until you explicitly choose to import them into a Google account.
Write plain text, Markdown and checklists
Plain text is ready for quick ideas, drafts and to-do lists. Switch to Markdown for headings, lists, links, code blocks and checklists, then use Preview to read the formatted result. The preview does not render raw HTML, scripts or remote images. Export a single note as a UTF-8 text or Markdown file, or export an active-note JSON backup.
Sync notes with an optional Google account
Sign in with Gmail or Google Workspace to create account notes that sync when online. Existing guest notes are not uploaded by signing in: review and select the notes you want to copy. The tool requests basic sign-in identity only; it does not read Gmail, Drive or Calendar. Account notes are encrypted on our server, but this is not end-to-end encryption.
Share a read-only note link
Choose Share, review the exact title and text, and create a frozen snapshot. Anyone with a valid link can read that copy; you can set an expiry, require a password and revoke the link. Editing the original note does not change an existing snapshot. Creating or revoking a hosted link requires internet access. Do not include secrets you do not want recipients to see.
Restore a note or write offline
Use history to restore an earlier version as a new edit, or move a note to Trash and restore it within the retention period. After one online visit, the app shell can reopen offline. Guest notes remain on this device; account notes need a verified session unless you choose trusted-device offline access. Pending account edits sync after reconnection.

Can I use the notepad without signing up?
Yes. Open the page and start typing. Guest notes save in this browser. Google sign-in is optional for account sync.
Does the online notepad autosave my notes?
Guest edits autosave to this browser, and the save indicator confirms a successful local commit. Account edits sync to your account when online; the indicator distinguishes local pending edits from confirmed sync.
Where are my notes stored?
Guest notes stay in this browser unless you explicitly share or import them. Account notes sync to encrypted server storage after Google sign-in. Clearing browser data can remove guest notes, so export important work.
Can I write Markdown and to-do checklists?
Yes. Switch to Markdown mode for headings, lists, code and checklists, then open Preview. Plain text mode is also available.
Can I share a note without an account?
Yes. Review and explicitly create a read-only hosted snapshot. You can choose an expiry, add a password or revoke its link later.
Will a shared note update when I edit the original?
No. A share link opens the frozen copy you reviewed when creating it. Make a new link if you want to share later changes.
Can I export my notes?
Yes. Download a note as UTF-8 text or Markdown, or export active notes as a JSON backup. History, Trash, passwords and share tokens are excluded from that backup.
Does signing in upload my existing guest notes?
No. Sign-in leaves guest notes on this device. You choose any notes to copy into your account after reviewing the selection.
Can I use the notepad offline?
After an online visit prepares the app, guest notes can reopen offline. Account notes require a verified session or your explicit trusted-device offline choice. Hosted sharing needs internet access.
