How to compare text

Compare two versions of plain text without signing in. Your text is processed in this browser and is not uploaded or saved by 123note.

Paste text into the Original and Updated panels, or import one supported UTF-8 text file per panel. Choose whether to ignore case or extra ASCII spaces and tabs, then select Compare texts.

Review changed pairs, added and removed lines, or switch between side-by-side and unified views. Copy or export a readable TXT report when you are done.

Each version supports up to 100,000 UTF-16 text units and 2,000 lines. Files can be up to 1 MiB. PDF and Word files are not supported. Line endings CRLF and CR are compared as LF; a final newline still counts as an additional empty line.

Frequently asked questions

Does 123note store my text?

No. Text Compare processes your text in this browser. It is not uploaded or saved by 123note. Leaving or reloading the page clears the inputs.

How are differences counted?

Matching lines are aligned first. An old line paired with a new line is a changed pair. Unpaired lines are added or removed. Ignored case and spacing differences do not count as changes.

What can I compare?

Plain text and supported UTF-8 text files, including .txt, .md, .csv, .json, .xml, .html, .css, .js and .log. PDF and Word files are not supported.
